Leighton is a leading criminal silk who has been involved in many of the most important criminal cases of recent years on the Wales and Chester Circuit, including several high profile cases of gross negligence manslaughter, R. v. Edwards and Edwards (2001, parents convicted for allowing their young children, killed by a train, to play on a railway line whilst picnicking), R. v. Goel and Roberts (2002, consultant surgeons removing wrong kidney of victim resulting in his death), and R. v. Sinha (2004, GP convicted of killing a patient after administering a massively large dose of morphine).
