Patrick Harrington QC led the defence in the murder case of Samantha Gosney. Samantha who had been dating Adam Brettle for 18 months, was brutally murdered by her boyfriend following a sustained stabbing which took place in Rhyl, North Wales on 24 November 2018.

During the hearing it was established that Mr Brettle had been manipulative and controlling in previous relationships and Judge Neil Flewitt QC described that the turning point for Samantha’s murder was her decision to attend her grandmother’s funeral and wake a few days prior to her murder, against Mr Brettle’s orders.

Mr Brettle was sentenced on Monday 20 May 2019 at Liverpool Crown Court to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 18 years and 19 days.
