Our policy is to look to the long term and recruit pupils who have potential for a career with Farrar's Building. We are looking for dedicated people who are ready for the hard work and responsibility of practice to become our next generation. Former pupils have developed first-rate practices with Chambers. Three of our present silks, Gerard Elias, John Leighton Williams and Alan Jeffreys, undertook their pupillages here. Many previous pupils have had distinguished careers with Farrar's Building before taking judicial appointments on the Circuit and High Court bench.
Farrar's Building is an outstanding chambers for pupils to obtain wide experience during their training. Pupillage is organised in three four-month periods. The second four months is dedicated to assisting pupils make the transition from non-practicing to practicing. During this period pupils will be in court with junior members of chambers on a regular basis, experiencing the type of work they will be expected to undertake as soon as they are on their feet.
Two twelve-month pupillages are offered, commencing in October each year. For the session commencing in October 2012, the pupillage award will be £25,000 for each pupil, of which £5,000 can be drawn down in the preceding year. The balance is paid monthly over twelve months. Unlike many other sets, our pupils have the incentive of receiving earnings from their own work in the second six months. In previous years diligent pupils have earned around £15,000, in addition to their pupillage awards.
Farrar's Building is a member of OLPAS for the summer season. and applications are to be made through the Pupillage Portal (www.pupillage.com). There is a minimum qualification requirement of a 2.1 degree.
