This year’s personal injury update seminar will be chaired by Alan Jeffreys QC and will provide practioners with a timely update and aims to look at the following areas of personal injury law:

Psychiatric Injury To Secondary Victims: The Model Of Close Control

Andrew Arentsen will provide an overview on the control mechanisms in place that restrict recovery for psychiatric injury by secondary victims of a tort-feasors negligence.

Case law to be examined will include:

  • Mcloughlin v O’Brian
  • Alcock v The Chief Constable of the South Yorkshire Police
  • Walters v North Glamorgan NHS Trust
  • Taylor v A Novo (UK) Ltd
  • Liverpool Womens Hospital NHS Trust v Ronayne

The talk will allow practitioners to make a swift assessment on the likely merits of cases of this type and to confidently identify the major issues that are likely to be contentious.

Dishonesty In Personal Injury Claims

Hannah Saxena will give an update on fraud and dishonesty in personal injury claims. In particular she will examine the ‘fundamental dishonesty’ exception to QOCS and the effect of s57 of the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015.

Notable Cases Update

Lee Evans will provide an update on cases and developments of the last year.
