Legal 500

Edward James

  • Called in 2002

Ed is a leading junior whose practice encompasses catastrophic personal injury, clinical negligence, inquests, police law, and sports-related claims. He is instructed by both claimants and defendants in complex, high value and sensitive matters.

Ranked in both Chambers UK and Legal 500 across his core specialisms, Ed is recognised as a ‘fearless’ and ‘formidable advocate’, noted for his ‘deep commitment’, ‘superb trial preparation’ and being ‘wonderful with clients’.

His personal injury work includes traumatic brain injuries, chronic pain, serious orthopaedic injury and amputations, frequently involving complex medical evidence, contested liability and quantum.

Ed is also regularly instructed in inquests, acting for families, public authorities, and interested parties in sensitive and often high-profile proceedings. His practice in police law complements this, particularly in matters involving state accountability and public scrutiny.

Ed has developed a particular specialism in sports-related injury claims, appearing in the County Court and High Court. His experience in this sector provides a nuanced understanding of risk, liability and regulatory frameworks across a range of sports.

With over 20 years’ experience across the civil and criminal courts, Ed combines robust advocacy with clear, commercial advice. His dual perspective acting for both claimants and defendants allows him to anticipate opposition strategy and position cases effectively from an early stage.
