Recognised in the leading legal directories for their “exceptional ” advocacy and “effective and forensic” cross examination, members of Farrar’s Building are instructed to both prosecute and defend in complex and high-stakes criminal cases, with a particular focus on serious offences requiring detailed analysis of evidence, expert material and careful strategic judgment.

A central part of our practice involves cases concerning the most serious criminal allegations, including homicide and serious violence, as well as complex and sensitive prosecutions involving serious sexual offences. Members are experienced in handling substantial and often technical evidence, frequently involving vulnerable witnesses and significant public interest.

Chambers also has extensive experience in financial and corporate crime. Our barristers are regularly instructed in cases involving serious fraud, financial crime and related offences such as conspiracy, false accounting and money laundering. Members have acted in investigations and prosecutions brought by bodies such as the Serious Fraud Office and the Financial Conduct Authority, often involving complex financial structures, large volumes of documentation and multi-party proceedings.

In addition, members are instructed in serious road traffic offences, including cases of causing death by dangerous or careless driving. These cases frequently run alongside civil claims and inquests, and our expertise in personal injury and insurance work enables us to provide coordinated advice where criminal and civil issues overlap.

Our criminal practice is closely aligned with Chambers’ wider expertise in regulatory and health, safety and environmental matters, with members frequently instructed in prosecutions arising from alleged legislation breaches. This breadth of experience allows us to assist clients where criminal investigations intersect with regulatory enforcement, inquests and related civil proceedings.

Members are instructed throughout the lifecycle of serious criminal matters, from early investigative advice and pre-charge engagement through to trial, sentencing and appeal. Whether prosecuting or defending, our barristers are recognised for their experience in the most demanding of cases.

"Farrar's Building is a well-established set with a stellar reputation on the Wales & Chester Circuit for its handling of complex criminal matters."
