Recognised as ‘go-to sports lawyers’ and ‘absolutely first rate’, our members are routinely instructed by governing bodies, clubs and players across all aspects of sports law, and have been involved in many of the highest profile matters in the UK.
The head of our Sports Team, Christopher Quinlan KC, is noted for having “an excellent feel for how a sports panel operates and is first-rate at dealing with evidence and cross-examination.”
Members combine deep sector knowledge with expertise drawn from Chambers’ core practice areas. We are regularly instructed in high value personal injury claims arising in sport, with a number of members having been involved in the brain injury group claims in rugby union, rugby league, and football. This work reflects our strength in catastrophic injury and complex medical evidence, as well as our ability to manage large-scale, high-profile disputes.
Our professional discipline & regulation practice is central to our sports offering. Several members sit as Chairs and panel members for leading sports bodies, including Sport Resolutions, World Rugby, the Rugby Football Union, the Football Association, World Athletics, and Table Tennis England. We act for governing bodies, clubs and individuals in disciplinary, anti-doping and misconduct proceedings, bringing extensive experience of professional discipline and regulatory law.
We are also recognised for our work in safeguarding in sport, including leading independent reviews and advising on sensitive allegations of abuse and misconduct. This work often overlaps with our expertise in personal injury, employment and regulatory proceedings, enabling us to provide coordinated and strategic advice in complex cases.
Members are further instructed in sports-related employment and commercial disputes, acting for players, staff, employers, clubs and governing bodies, including in FA Rule K arbitration and other specialist tribunal proceedings.
