Paul is a highly experienced and talented advocate, specialising in serious crime, including homicide, fraud and serious sexual offences.
Paul has a particular expertise in representing children and young people charged with serious crimes. In recent times, he has defended children as young as twelve who have been charged with murder. He is experienced in communicating with young defendants, and is able to explain complex legal issues in simple and comprehensible terms.
He has also developed a specialised knowledge of regulatory offences in the fields of agriculture and fisheries. He has successfully acted for the defence in cases involving alleged breaches of bovine TB regulations; the welfare of laying hens; unlicensed fishing; and the regulations surrounding the marketing of eggs.
He recently represented one of the UK’s largest egg packers in respect of 26 allegations brought by DEFRA concerning alleged failures to comply with regulations concerning the marketing of Class A eggs. Following a five day trial, the company was acquitted of all charges.
