Mediation & Arbitration

Farrar’s Building’s barristers are regularly instructed on behalf of both Claimants and Defendants with many members maintaining a mixed practice throughout their careers. This makes them ideally suited to mediating or otherwise resolving contentious disputes between parties while retaining their impartiality throughout.

A number of Chambers’ members and door tenants have past or current judicial experience as Deputy District Judges, Recorders and former Circuit Judges.

Farrar’s Building barristers are conscious of their clients’ need for cost-effective solutions to their problems and are experienced in dispute resolution procedures outside the mainstream court process. These range from round table settlement negotiations to more formal means of alternative dispute resolution.

For many years members have both chaired and represented clients in arbitrations and in mediations, and in sector-specific disputes procedures. Farrar’s premises in the Inner Temple contain conference rooms and video conferencing facilities enabling chambers to provide in house facilities for mediations or round table meetings in which members of chambers are involved.

Chambers are able to make use of state of the art remote conferencing facilities and can draw on their recent experience forged in the recent Coronavirus pandemic. All mediation and arbitration services can be conducted virtually through Chambers at the discretion of the arbitrator and/or mediator.

Among the services which Chambers can offer are:

Arbitration and Early Neutral Evaluation:

Members of Chambers at all levels of seniority are available to provide arbitration or early neutral evaluation of all varieties of civil dispute. Members are able to draw on their experience as advocates, chairs and/or senior panel members of quasi-judicial bodies or on their own judicial experience.

In light of the recent pandemic, and the corresponding reduction in hearings being heard by Court, Members of Chambers are able to offer a reliable service at any value of claim to ensure a timely resolution either by non-binding early neutral evaluation or by binding arbitration.

Mediation

Farrar’s Building mediators are experienced in mediating most areas of civil dispute and there is a range of experience and cost suited to the value and complexity of a case.

Farrar’s Building mediators are included in the Bar Council List of Barrister Mediators which includes those who have completed 30 or more mediations.

Mediators within chambers include:

  • Grant Goodlad (Cedr), accredited in 1996 and a member of the Civil Mediation Council, a number of mediation provider panels and a trainer of mediators.
