Dan Jacklin (Pupil)

Dan Jacklin (Pupil)

  • Called in 2022

Dan started pupillage in October 2023 and is currently under the supervision of David Roderick. He will obtain experience in Chambers’ core practice areas, including personal injury and clinical negligence.

Before pupillage, Dan won several awards working in the UK senior leadership team at the British Standards Institute and worked across a diverse portfolio of standards, including occupational health and safety, environmental management, anti-bribery, and product regulation. Dan has delivered training for blue-chip clients on various topics related to his expertise for over ten years.

Outside of his work for the BSI, Dan gained extensive experience as an expert witness, working with instructing solicitors and senior counsel on cases involving fatalities and catastrophic personal injuries in the UK and internationally.

Before moving to the BSI, Dan was Head of Health and Safety for a large facility management company, operating 50 sites, 2,500 staff and three million customer visits annually. Dan has volunteered as an independent advisor to the Royal Life Saving Society UK for the last six years. He was previously a member of the Audit and Probity Committee at CIMSPA, the Professional Standards Committee at IEMA, and the Policy and Standards Committee at IOSH, where he developed a working knowledge of professional conduct and practice issues.

Whilst studying the BPTC, Dan led client conferences and drafted pleadings under supervision in the housing team of a legal advice clinic. Dan spent several years working part-time as a doctoral research assistant, supporting legal academics and PhD students and archiving the late works of Professor Patrick McAuslan for the Bodleian Libraries at Oxford University.

The focus of his PhD thesis was risk factors for the development of eating disorders, with consideration of the overlap with ADHD, ASD/C, substance abuse, and OCD, in which he has a keen interest.

Dan is interested in personal injury, property damage and travel law cases, with a special interest in cases with a health and safety or psychiatric dimension.

Personal Injury

Dan is regularly instructed in liability contested trials, Stage 3 disposal hearings, interim applications, and infant settlement hearings.

Dan recently represented a senior doctor in a trial over a roundabout road traffic accident, where he sensitively cross-examined a vulnerable elderly claimant to secure the dismissal of the claim.

Credit Hire

Dan is regularly instructed in credit hire matters for claimants and defendants. In a recent liability contested trial, Dan’s cross-examination of the claimant was described as “meticulous” and his submissions as “clear, concise, and persuasive.”

Dan was recently successful in inviting a district judge to dismiss all three basic hire rates through a forensic analysis of the terms and conditions and the intervention offer for failing to be Copley-compliant to secure an award for a pecunious claimant at the full credit hire rate.
