Emily joined Farrar’s Building in October 2022 as a Probationary Tenant and accepted Tenancy in April 2023.

Emily accepts instructions in all of Chambers’ practice areas. She is building a mixed practice in employment, regulatory & disciplinary and personal injury.

Emily has a busy court practice and is instructed in both small claims and fast track trials. She acts for both claimants and defendants. She is well versed on the usual actions arising from road traffic accidents, including liability disputes and credit hire claims.

Alongside her Court work Emily is building a paperwork practice. She accepts instructions to draft schedules, counter schedules, statements of case and part 18 & part 35 questions, and to provide written advice on liability and quantum.

Emily completed her pupillage in a chambers specialising in criminal defence work. She represented clients accused of a wide range of offences and acted in multi-day, multi-handed trials. Through this experience Emily learned to take a considered and forensic approach to evidence and witness handling which is advantageous in her civil practice.

Prior to pupillage, Emily worked as a paralegal at a leading civil liberties firm. She worked on various inquests, the Undercover Policing Inquiry, civil claims against the police and prison service, and civil claims arising from the Grenfell Tower fire.

Employment

Emily has experience acting and advising in Employment law matters and is keen to expand her knowledge and experience in this area.

Her experiences includes:

  • Successfully representing a Claimant (pro bono via Advocate) in a claim for unfair dismissal, unlawful deductions from wages and unpaid holiday.
  • Obtaining strike out of a discrimination claim brought in the County Court.
  • Advising on the merits of a claim for constructive dismissal, victimisation, whistleblowing and discrimination.
  • Most recently, advising on whether a claw-back provision in an employment contract constituted an unenforceable penalty clause.

Personal Injury

Emily accepts instructions for both claimants and defendants personal injury matters, from trials to interim and case management hearings and Stage 3 disposals. She also accepts paperwork instructions, including statements of case, schedules and written advice.

Emily is willing to accept instructions on a CFA basis.

Regulatory & Disciplinary

Emily is interested in all aspects of regulatory and disciplinary law. She has gained experience and training through the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and is instructed to act for the regulator.

Emily has handled a number of fitness to practise cases at the interim order stage and is happy to accept instructions for substantive hearings.

Crime

Having a completed a pupillage in criminal defence, Emily has a good grounding in criminal law, procedure and tactics.

She has successfully obtained acquittals where her client has not given evidence, made multiple successful half-time submissions and on several occasions persuaded the CPS to offer no evidence while at Court, and to discontinue following written representations.

She has acted and advised in driving matters including drug driving, drink driving, failing to stop, and careless & dangerous driving. While a first six pupil, she observed a 3-week trial of causing death by dangerous driving.

Combined with her experience of civil road traffic trials, she is well placed to defend clients charged with driving offences.

Inquests

Emily has an interest in developing an inquests practice, having worked on several high-profile inquests while working as a paralegal.

Clinical Negligence

Emily has an interest in clinical negligence and is keen to continue to develop her practice in this area.

Emily spends most of her time outside of work socialising. She also sings in a choir weekly and enjoys exercising, whether that’s swimming, cycling or going the gym.
