Huw has many years of experience dealing with property damage claims, primarily on behalf of Defendants. He has significant experience of subsidence and fire damage claims, as well as damage caused by water leaks. In addition he has dealt with contribution claims, both during main actions and following settlement.
Recent cases include:
Moore v Network Rail: Huw acted on behalf of D in a contested subsidence claim brought by C for significant damage allegedly caused by trees on land owned by Network Rail. The matter was successfully defended with engineering and arboricultural expert evidence called at trial, C failing on proving that damage occurred during the period claimed.
D v M: Huw acted on behalf of D insurer involving significant fire damage to a chip shop premises. Primary issue related to the causation of fire and whether it started in air vents or as a result of combustion of frying materials which determined whether indemnity would be provided. Confidential settlement.
X v Y CC: Advising on whether a valid subrogated claim could be brought following significant underpinning costs. Case raised complicated issues of material contribution to damage by tree roots and whether untreated tree stumps would have contributed to alleged subsidence damage.

Huw sadly realised at a very young age that he would never make a professional sportsman, having two left feet and no co-ordination. He is however a fanatical Welsh rugby fan and will happily talk about rugby at length with anyone who would care to listen.
Having been brought up in Hong Kong he has retained a keen interest in travel, and will gladly take instructions from anyone willing to send him to an exotic location, though will be more than happy to attend the District Registry at Hull County Court if needs must.
